Soltana Couture was Founded by the fashion designer Fatma Ben Soltane , Soltana is a brand name inspired from her family name paralleled with a logo that mirrors the first name which is the hand of Fatma. Her designs are one of a kind and speaks for itself. That’s exactly how it distinguished itself during her first fashion show in Fashion Forward Dubai. Elegant, cultural rich and unique are the terms that defines it most.
DFT – When did you know you wanted to be a fashion designer? Soltana – I knew it since a very young age. I still remember the time I was doing my own denim and thinking how much I love fashion. Fashion has always been my passion and one true obsession.
DFT – What’s it like being in the industry? Soltana – As exciting as it sounds and is, it’s very challenging with intense work and focus. To excel in this fashion industry you require strategic planning and stress control skills.
DFT – How would you describe your design aesthetic? Soltana – I would say feminine, sophisticated and bold. I make sure my designs highlight the independence and confidence of the woman who adorns it.
DFT – From where do you get your inspiration? Soltana – I take inspiration from everywhere and everything I do based on my state of mind. There is always something more to what meets the eye. I use that and present a unique style.
DFT – Tell us about your latest fall 2016 Couture collection and what’s the inspiration behind it? Soltana – LUX FLORA is a very rich collection based on an incredible work of Embroidery representing flowers. Each piece of the collection is unique, full of details, embroidered and took hundreds of hours of handwork and beading.At our first fashion show in Dubai, I wanted to show the Soltana « griffe » and the work of embroidery that we do in our workshop. Some dresses have corset belt to highlight the woman’s waist. Other outfits are more casual like the denim collection but stay feminine as well. With this collection, I wanted to execute my ideal evening-wear and elevated day-wear collection. I wanted to imagine what the dream squad would be.
DFT – Which one is your favorite piece from the fall 2016 Couture Collection and why? Soltana – The embroidered denim with the shirt bow and the jacket. It’s normally a casual outfit but I wanted to show its sophistication side and made sure I did exactly that. This outfit completely represents the brand showcasing pointers on how to be very feminine, coquette and sophisticated in something minimal yet beautiful as a boyfriend jean.
DFT – Describe the type of woman who would wear ‘Soltana Couture’? Soltana – Soltana is not focused on just one style or type. I believe it should be adorned by women of all types. It is a fashion symbol for all strong, powerful, self-confident, independent and well cultured woman. I love designing for women of all body shapes, sizes and types. The designs dare you to stand out.
DFT – How do you market your business? Soltana – I am very active on social media and market my business mostly in Social Network, fashion shows, and magazines.
DFT – Do you use Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube etc. to promote your fashion brand? How successful has it been for you? Soltana – Absolutely. So far, it has been successful. As said earlier I am very much active on all social media handles.
DFT – Is there a particular design in the fashion industry (Dubai & Internationally) that you look up-to? Soltana – I love Italian designs. I love the way they mix fabrics, they are not afraid to go out of the box! and it looks classy and beautiful at the same time!
DFT – What do you think about Dubai fashion industry? Do you think it will become the next global fashion capital? Solatna – I believe it is a great platform of fashion as it is constantly growing in a fast pace. It’s unique melting pot of styles makes a perfect addition in becoming the next global fashion capital.
DFT – What excites you about the potential for spaces like d3? Soltana – Spaces like Dubai Design District is a boon and huge contribution to the growing fashion industry of Dubai. I believe it is an amazing chance for young designers to show their talent and make a mark.
DFT – How would you describe your personal fashion style? Soltana – I don’t have a particular style. I choose to be very eclectic. But, I like to experiment and use details that add a unique or different touch to my attire.
DFT – Where is your favorite place in Dubai? Soltana – I love Dubai international Financial Center.
